Alynthia

the story

Dragons fly through dark clouds overhead.

As you look across the ravaged landscape of Alynthia despair threatens to overwhelm you. Your beloved kingdom is a shadow of its former glory, but your guild members are depending on your leadership.

You must rebuild Alynthia.

Either unite to free Alynthia from the Dragons or compete against your fellow guild leaders to become the new ruler of Alynthia. The choice is yours.

why it's unique

Fight off swarms of dragons

You aren't alone in Alynthia, as dragons spawn every round and spread across the board, attacking anything they encounter. They provide an ever-changing environment that you must either use to your advantage, or risk destruction.

Control over your playstyle

Choose your own path through the research track to become a warrior, builder, merchant, politician, or create your own mix of strategies. As the leader of one of five different guilds, you also have access to unique abilities that only you can use.

Compete, cooperate, or go it alone

Whether you prefer working together, cutthroat competition, or playing alone, Alynthia has a game mode for you. Since the core rules stay the same and only a few rules change between game modes, switching back and forth is easy.

compete, cooperate, or go it alone

Stay engaged with simultaneous play or speed rounds

In cooperative mode, everyone plays at the same time - there aren't any turns! You decide when the best time to act or wait is. In competitive mode, two actions per turn means there's little down time, so you can react to other players' actions and you aren't stuck waiting.

I love a game like Alynthia where you walk away and ask 'What if I did Y on turn X?'. This leads to really wanting to come back to the table and try other strategies.-Brian | Virtual Gaming Con Playtester

how to play

Choose your game mode:

cooperative
All players take actions simultaneously to defeat all the dragon nests before time runs out.
competitive
Each player takes two actions per turn, competing to collect the most renown and claim victory.
solo
Same as cooperative, but with no one to help you.

Each round has four phases:

Guild Phase

Under your careful guidance, your guild has grown, and its tradespeople and scholars have rallied behind you.

With newfound skills, use your unique abilities to fight together against the dragon hordes, or use your competitive advantage to crush your enemies.

Unlock an asymmetric guild ability, if applicable.

(Advanced Guild Mode only)

Dragon Phase

You have contained the dragons from spreading beyond the cities you once called home, but not without great cost.

Alynthia lies in ruins, and the dragons have built massive nests atop the rubble. Now as they lick their wounds, they're growing in strength and number.

Spawn dragons

Each turn, roll & add dragons to their nests atop the ruined cities of Alynthia.

Swarm dragons

If there are more than five dragons on any space, they swarm outwards and attack anything they encounter.

Defend your territory

Battle is simple; players' attack/defense strength, workers, and a die roll are compared to the dragons' strength and die roll to determine victory. Though players can play action cards at any time to turn the tide of battle!

Action Phase

Cooperative Story

The guild leaders have resolved that your only chance of survival is to unite against the dragons.

Time is running out, and you must use every resource to retake and rebuild the land before Alynthia descends completely into chaos.

Competitive Story

The only way Alynthia will survive is if a strong leader unites the guilds, and you know you are that leader. However, the other guild leaders share your ambition.

You must do everything you can to show the people that you deserve to lead.

Spend focus and resources

Move your character to build resource-producing outposts, upgrade those outposts to unlock abilities, and fight dragons (or other players in competitive mode).

If you get into a bind, buy action cards to gain powerful one-time bonuses or use the market to exchange resources for the cards or renown you need.

Harvest Phase

After a long season of toil and struggle, it's time to gather the harvest from your outposts throughout the land.

However, your rest is short-lived - the threats to Alynthia are still growing. Use this time to prepare for the challenges ahead.

Harvest resources

Collect from each space where you have an outpost. Only one outpost can be built on each space, so they are a valuable commodity.

Prepare for the next round

Resolve your hand limit, refresh any spent abilities, and refill the market.

Game End

Cooperative Story

You watch as light from the final burning dragon nest flickers over your friends and allies. So much has been sacrificed to make this day a reality. The battles weren't easy, but one by one your alliance fought back the scourge of dragons from the land.

The sun will soon rise on a future of peace and prosperity – a future you have all built together.

Competitive Story

What was once only your guild's is now the capital of all Alynthia. You stand looking out over throngs of people cheering your name.

Tales of your heroism and ingenuity have spread far and wide, and even your rivals must now bend their knee. As the crown is placed on your head, trumpets sound for the new ruler of Alynthia.

Cooperative

In all but the first round, if you don't defeat at least one nest per round, you lose.

But if you defeat all the nests by the end of the game, you win!

Competitive

If you have the most renown, you are the next ruler of Alynthia.

You have won the heart of the people, and you win!

This is a great solo experience. There's a lot of different ways you can try to play.

This game moves along really fast [in cooperative mode] because you can discuss what you think you want to do but you're all playing everything at the same time-Meet Me At The Table | Reviewer
